Following last month’s deadly attack on a Nairobi shopping mall, United States forces held raised in Libya and Somalia on Saturday, according to a Yahoo! News’ Saturday report. In the raids, a top al Qaeda person who has been wanted for the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings in Tanzania and Kenya has been captured.
Anas al Liby, a senior al Qaeda official, was seized in the Libya raid. No militant persons were captured in the Barawe, Somali raid, however.
Al Liby, thought to be 49 years of age, was previously indicted in the United States. He is believed to have played a role in the East Africa embassy bombings that claimed 224 lives. There had been a $5 million reward offered by the United States government for any information leading to the capture of al Liby.
It was previously reported that a team of the United States Navy SEAL allegedly killed a senior leader of al Shabaab in a raid performed on a Somali seaside villa much earlier in the day. That attack was prompted by the Westgate attack, according to unconfirmed reports.
