Al Gore's “Current TV” network has been sold to Al Jazeera. According to a report dated Jan. 2, the former American-owned business will have it's new headquarters in Doha, Qatar.
CNN also reported on Jan. 2 that the acquisition of Current TV will increase the American viewers of Al Jazeera. That had been the goal of Al Jazeera – to reach more Americans.
“We are proud and pleased that Al Jazeera, the award-winning international news organization, had bought Current TV,” Al Gore stated in a press release.
Current TV can be seen in about 60 million homes. Despite that, it has never had strong ratings in the United States. Al Jazeera is hoping that changes now that they own the cable network.
“Just what we need,” Tony Gibbs, from Oklahoma City, said. “Another outlet for Muslim propaganda. We get that enough from Barack Obama. Gore may think he is cleaning the environment, but he is sending jobs overseas and providing Muslim extremists another way to spread their hate and intolerance.”
Since Al Jazeera has purchased Current TV, Time Warner Cable has terminated its agreement with the cable network. It had previously ran Current TV in both New York and Los Angeles.
