24-hours of Reality began this morning (October 22) at 11am PST and kicks off a global streaming event that last year garnered over 16 million viewers around the world. Former Vice President Al Gore and The Climate Reality Project, with guest hosts like Phillipe Cousteau, are stopping the clock for a full 24 hours to focus the world’s attention on the greatest challenge of our time: climate change driven by carbon pollution.
The global broadcast this year -- 24 Hours of Reality: The Cost of Carbon -- brings together artists, scientists, celebrities, economists, and other experts to explore the many ways we’re ALL paying for carbon pollution in our daily lives. While most people turn a blind eye to the facts, the truth is that no matter where we live, we are ALL being effected by carbon pollution and it’s costing us not only billions of dollars, but endangers our health, our food supplies, our water and our very survival.
24-hours of Reality will help focus on not only on the consequences that carbon pollution is having on our planet and how it is truly impacting our global economy, hitting us in our personal pocketbooks, but also on the reality of how we can solve this and the opportunities that exist for turning the economy around.
Streaming live from the website at -- http://www.24hoursofreality.org -- each hour turns the spotlight on a separate continent — Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, or South America, and tells the story of how carbon pollution and climate change are shaping key local issues from food security to extreme weather, to health and safety issues.
Many people think climate change only applies to trapped polar bears, sea turtles and far-off countries. What you probably don't know is that carbon pollution effects you right where you live in more ways than you can imagine. Carbon pollution creates “dirty Weather” and climate change is creating extreme weather patterns that are becoming the new normal. Think hard and you or someone you know has already been affected by Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Sandy, the horrific fires and flooding throughout the United States, crop failures from drought and extreme temperatures…look around you and you will see the broken lives of people who try to combat the current climate conditions. But what most people fail to realize is that affects us all in our bank accounts. Climate reality Project’s 24 Hours of Reality has designed this event to deliver the informative truth, offering compelling science and gripping stories from real people while making it both seriously newsworthy and entertainment. The Cost of Carbon also offers audiences the opportunity to join the conversation and learn what costs carbon pollution is personally exposing them to through an interactive website and carbon costing feature. The Cost of Carbon breaks down what the climate crisis means for you personally in your daily life — so you can truly understand what is happening here and now on planet Earth…The ONLY Home you have.
