AJ Slaughter can chalk up another one for the record books to cap his playing career for the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers.
He was selected as the Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. This is Slaughter's third honor of this season and the fourth of his career. This ties Slaughter with New Jersey Nets star and WKU grad Courtney Lee for single season, and Tellis Frank (1986-87) for the school record.
Slaughter's three awards, along Steffphon Pettigrew earning the recognition on January 18, ties last year's Topper team for the most in a single season.
AJ Slaughter was the Sun Belt's Preseason Player of the Year and is averaging a league-leading 26.0 points and 5.0 assists for the past week week . Slaughter shot 47 percent from long range (8-of-17) and made 10-of-11 attempts for 90.9 percent.
Slaughter saved his best performance for Senior Night, with a thundering career-high 31 points and six assists but no turnovers in 29 minutes of play.
WKU wraps up its regular season this week in the Sunshine State, playing at Florida Atlantic on Thursday, February 25 at 6:00 PM CT before facing FIU in Miami, Fla. on Saturday at 7:00 PM.
