Last Thursday night, Hollywood hotspot Colony (1743 N Cahunega Blvd) was the host of a very special birthday celebration. Youth lifestyle brand Airwalk, known for their sporty footwear, celebrated 25 years of “independent expression” with a fabulous party, complete with a historical footwear exhibit, music, and lots and lots of Red Vines.
The Airwalk brand was first born in Southern California in 1986. Guests at the celebration browsed through a visual history of the brand, perusing over posters and images that highlighted some of Airwalk’s most important brand moments in pop culture as well as some of their most influential athletes. A clear case in the middle of the party held over a dozen Airwalk shoe styles ranging from the 1993 Free Ride Snowboard Boot to the 1989 Bumper. I spotted my favorite pair of sneaks on a guest… slip-ons in silver glitter.
Tunes were provided by hip-hop duo Chiddy Bang who performed a DJ set as well as a live performance. The event was co-sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon and yes, Red Vine. Celebrity guests included Airwalk athletes Anastasia Ashley, Tulio de Oliveira, Mike Vallely, and pro skater Andy Macdonald.
