Airline hacker fares

Kayak introduces Hacker Fares
(Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images) has instituted 'hacker fares' onto its travel booking website this week. This new service combines one-way flights from different airlines into round trips in order to give consumers the lowest price.

Previously, this could always be done by anyone on kayak, travelocity, expedia, or any other flight booking site, but it involved more work to manually input each flight and treat them as separate entities, then compare that cost to other round trip flights.

Kayak now searches these hacker fares to combine them into the best equation. For example, a round trip flight on to San Juan, Puerto Rico that leaves JFK Airport on October 4 and returns October 11 will cost $284.60.

However, the Kayak hacker fare would be $271 using Jet Blue to San Juan and Delta on the return to JFK. Not much difference, but if you are pinching pennies, every little bit helps.
