Air New Zealand unveild a giant image of the dragon Smaug on Monday along the side of one its planes. The new design is in celebration of the the premiere of the second movie in the "Hobbit" trilogy. It was the first time fans were able to see director Peter Jackson's cinematic interpretation of Smaug. In the first movie, the director revealed only the dragon's eye.
This isn't the first time that Air New Zealand has taken advantage of Jackson's choice to film the majority of the "Hobbit" trilogy as well as the "Lord of the Rings" triology in New Zealand. Last year, the ariline released a Lord of the Rings-inspired airline safety video. Air New Zealand has also added likenesses of other characters from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy to their planes in the past, but none have been as big of a reveal as this.
"The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" will be in theaters December 13th, 2013. For more images of the plane, visit this gallery from Air New Zealand.
