Air Force to discipline Airmen over distasteful Facebook picture

A distasteful photograph taken in August and posted on Facebook last December will get 16 Lackland based Airmen military disciplinary action but no criminal charges.

2011 was a public-relations nightmare for the U.S. Air Force.

Over the months, as the details came out about the mishandling of body parts at Dover Air Force base, the PR only got worse as fifteen misguided Airmen posed with a casket and labeled their picture, “Da Dumpt, De Dumpt, Sucks to be U” and posted it on the socail networking site.  The photo immediately went global.

Of note, the 16th Airman that was disciplined was not in the picture but was the photographer who some say might have also been the instigator.  On close inspection of the picture, seven of the Air Force members are women.

According to a Reuter’s reporter, the investigation found those who took the photo intended to remind colleagues they could be killed if they failed to pay attention while loading and unloading aircraft.

The anger and outrage this photograph unleashed was unparalleled but it was not enough to convince the Air Force that criminal charges were in order.

Examiner’s Note:  Since the photograph taken at Lackland did not appear to alter any of the Airmen’s appearance, public shame and humiliation promises to be added punishment.
