Air Force awards chaplain Bronze Star for Koran sensitivity class

The fifth highest medal awarded...

An Air Force Lieutenant Colonel has received one of the highest medals awarded by the American military for his PowerPoint presentation (PPP) on the proper handling and treating with "sensitivity" the Islamic Koran, as reported by The National Review Online (NRO) on March 11, 2013.

Chaplain Jon Trainer, a non-denominational Protestant chaplain with the Ohio Air National Guard, was awarded the prestigious Bronze Star medal for his computerized PowerPoint presentation "on the proper handling and disposal of Islamic religious material."

What Exactly Is The Bronze Star...?

As cited by the NRO, the Bronze Star is "given for heroic or meritorious achievement in connection with operations against an armed enemy."

But there is a provision that for those awarded the Bronze Star for courageous action in the face of the enemy are cited with the "Combat V" (for valor) device attached to the medal itself.

In Marine Corps parlance, the Combat V is reserved for "gunslingers," a common Marine term used for those who have actually served in combat vice those in the rear echelons.

Those awarded for administrated achievement are cited without the much sought after V.

Such is the case for Chaplain Trainer.

Sensitivity Is A Must...

As reported, Trainer pulled together and finalized his PPP within a mere two hours time frame.

Trainer also helped teach deploying Service members "just how wide the breadth of their sensitivity had to be, covering what constitutes Islamic religious material in the first place."

To ensure riots don't breakout as did in early 2012 when American troops throughout Afghanistan were the targets, Trainer stated:

"When a Muslim writes down even a few verses from the Quran on a piece of paper.

That immediately gets that same protected status."

There was no indication how any given American Marine, soldier, sailor or airman was suppose to know if any given writing in Arabic, Pashto or Dari was suppose to a verse from the Koran or not.

Chaplain Trainer is currently in the running for the Air Force's Chaplain of the Year.

A Reason Or Just An Excuse...

During February of 2012, US personnel properly disposed of copies of the Muslim worship book when they were desecrated by Muslims prisoners in American custody.

As previously covered by Examiner.com, American troops at the time properly disposed of the copies by burning, in strict accordance of Islamic law.

Nonetheless, Americans found themselves at the receiving end of violent demonstrations, to include killings, where our troops were accused of purposefully disrespecting Islam and all Muslims.
