NCsoft today revealed details of the new pet system being released as part of Aion: Assault on Balaurea, the forthcoming, free content update for Aion.
Launching September 7th, Aion: Assault on Balaurea is the next major content update for NCSoft's Aion MMORPG, bringing with it a whole slew of new content, features, fixes and refinements.
Among the new features is a new pet sysem that gives you access to a variety of useful pets capable of storing goods, assisting with crafting, or acting as guardians by alerting you to nearby enemies.
Aion: Assault on Balaurea will initially launch with five pet types:
- Companion – Adventure with their owner throughout Atreia
- Signal – Alert their owner to the presence of enemy players
- Pack – Expand their owner’s inventory
- Fortune – Produce items for their owner after being well-fed
- Purebred – Provide their owner with multiple functions at once
You'll initially have 100 dedicated pet slots available, but you will be restricted to one pet of each type, and you can only have one pet summoned at any given time. (Probably a good thing so Aion players don't become 'Crazy Cat Lady' players.) In addition, you can name your pets whatever you like and change their names at will. A new praise emote that triggers unique animations for each pet will also be introduced.
Pets will be available through in-game purchases, quest rewards, item drops, and through special promotional events. To celebrate the release of the expansion, those who purchase Aion: Assault on Balaurea (MSRP $39.99) – the new retail SKU which also includes the full game) from select retailers will receive an exclusive Companion pet along with a premium Speckled Ailu (Panda) Pack pet.
