Move over International Motorcycle Shows (IMS), there's new competition in town.
The American International Motorcycle Expo (AIMExpo) will hold its debut event Oct. 16-20 in Orlando, FL, at the Orange County Convention Center.
The event is being billed as "North America’s first combined consumer, trade, and media event." Aside from the usual booths where vendors display their wares, the event will have outdoor space for demo rides on the newest street and dirt bikes. Suzuki, Kymco, and Yamaha are among the manufacturers bringing bikes. As a general motorsports event, there will also be ATVs and other off-road vehicles as well.
Also on hand will be the Motorcycle Safety Foundation, which will be offering its three-hour Introductory Motorcycle Experience, which, while not a full training program, "guides participants through the basic controls and is a great way to see if motorcycling is for you."
Among the presentations that such shows typically offer, Frank Fritz will be a special guest presenter at AIMExpo. Fritz in one of the hosts of the American Pickers TV show that features hunts for old, collectible motorcycles stashed for years in barns and other dusty places. Fritz will be bringing some selected beauties from his own collection to the show for viewing by those attending.
The most well-known name on the bill, however, will be motorcycle racing champion Kenny Roberts. Roberts has signed on as "American International Motorcycle Champion," which effectively means he will be the face of the expo.
It all starts in just a few days now. It will be interesting to see if a little competition shakes up the existing IMS regime and how that group will respond.
