Burberry announced today via press release that Chief Executive Officer, Angela Ahrendts, will be leaving the company and joining Apple in a newly created position as a senior vice president and member of its executive team, reporting directly to CEO Tim Cook. Ahrendts worked as CEO of Burberry for almost a decade and is given credit for reviving the British brand from plummeting sales and what the company describes as brand overexposure.
Replacing Ahrendts is Christopher Bailey, who is currently the Chief Creative Officer at Burberry. Bailey has been with Burberry since 2001 and has held the position of Chief Creative Officer since for the past six years. Ahrendts will be joining Apple mid-year 2014, and in the meanwhile she and Bailey will work closely together to ensure a smooth transition with no interruptions to the Burberry’s activities.
