Ahmadinejad shoe attack a close call for Iranian president

A Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shoe attack turned into a near miss for the Iranian president. It seems that Ahmadinejad was greeting a crowd in Egypt when a man emerged and started swinging a shoe at him. According to a report from Tuesday (Feb. 5), the attacker wasn't able to get close enough to make contact with Ahmadinejad, even though this could have been viewed as a serious threat to the leader of Iran.

This is considered a huge insult in the Middle East and it could have certainly become an international incident if the man had connected with his shoe. Hitting someone with the bottom of a shoe in the Middle East is a very grave insult, so this could have escalated into something much bigger if any contact had been made.

There is a video of the incident that has been posted on YouTube already and it shows how the incident played out. Toward the end of the threatening gesture with the shoe, several men go after the attacker before Ahmadinejad is rushed out of the area. He is put into a waiting car and they zip away, barely evading what could have been a very embarrassing few moments for him.

The Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shoe attack is going to be big news around the globe, especially because it will remind many people of the time that former U.S. President George W. Bush had to dodge shoes being thrown at him during a speech.
