Agnosticism as defined in earlier articles is the belief that God is unknowable or that our current understanding of God is errant or misplaced. Many Agnostics came into their views through an intense look into their own Religion and finding it lacking. The search for this missing something caused them to begin with the basics. What is God? The simplest answer coming from the old testament is simply that He "is". In order to obtain a more complete grasp of what He is through traditional Religion it is necessary to read scores and scores of pages to create a character sketch from his actions. What this research reveals is a God in part bi-polar, sometimes mean and in most cases downright confusing. He appears to be a very disciplinarian father with the tendency to drastically overreact to minor offenses. Add to his confusing personality the plethora of Saints, Prophets, Apostles and spokespeople that serve to disseminate His word and it appears to be a several thousand year old game of "phone".
The search that many Agnostics undergo is to cut through the chaos to find true meaning. Not as much derived from the idea that everyone else is wrong, but that understanding of God is as individual and unique as each person that believes in Him. Its not that the Agnostic is a selfish solipsist but rather that they are stubborn and refuse to accept the beliefs they find contradictory to their own reason. In essence, the Agnostic searches for a full and complete understanding of God on a personal level unimpeachable by any outside influence. The kind of faith that the born again, prophet and saint all have but without the dogma surrounding it. Because the originators of the world's major Religions already did the groundwork for various paths to the divine it is much easier to find a connection to God through them, and as it turns out most Agnostics eventually come across an existing Religion that works well for them and have a much stronger faith for it.
