Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector of south Texas have seized almost four tons of marijuana since November 7th.
The largest confiscation happened at the Sarita Checkpoint on U.S. Highway 77 when agents found more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana hidden inside a tractor-trailer.
Another substantial shipment of marijuana was apprehended that same day near Abram, Texas, where agents saw a suspicious Chevrolet Suburban traveling north from the Rio Grande at a high rate of speed.
When the driver observed he was being followed by agents, he drove through a chain-link fence and abandoned the vehicle south of the levee.
Agents found nearly 1,500 pounds of marijuana inside the Suburban.
“Other seizures on November 7 and November 8, brought the total amount of marijuana seized to nearly 8,000 pounds, with an estimated value of more than $6.3 million,” an information release from Dennis Smith, of the Custom Border Patrol Public Affair office indicated. “The drugs were turned over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.”
CBP officers at the Eagle Pass port of entry seized 47 pounds of cocaine and 5,460 rounds of ammunition, in two separate incidents earlier last week.
