Too many Real Estate Agents run from company to company leaving a trail of "blame" for their lack of success. These agents just don’t get it. They are basically "self employed" no matter where they hang their license. Being successful in Real Estate calls for the mindset of owning your own business. It requires hard work and dedication to succeed.
I can understand an agent's disappointment if they were promised things, or forced to pay for things that proved to be a recruiting tactic. Shame on Brokers playing those games. But until everyone realizes that it's up to the agent to create their own success......the cycle will never stop.
I interviewed an agent last week who had hung her license with 3 other companies over the past 6 years. This agent called us. She was “SHOCKED” when I stopped the interview after 10 minutes and told her that she wouldn’t fit our group. To put it mildly, she was extremely upset with me. She proceeded to say that companies X Y and Z were competing for her to join them. My response was:
“We are all self employed and our success for ourselves and our clients is based on a clear, concise ability to understand this. No matter what company you work for you must be knowledgeable, available, and market yourself. You are not going to be “HANDED” anything. When you say “I’ve been there for 4 years and haven’t made any money”………that’s YOUR FAULT not the company you are leaving. Part of your mistake was believing the false promises. The other part was sitting around waiting for leads……………..those days are gone no matter what a “recruiter” tells you.
Like all industries, there needs to be more “common sense” in what it’s all about. An industry eventually falls and becomes the butt of jokes when quantity in agents overrides
quality in service. Any agent who doesn’t realize they are “SELF EMPLOYED” and must work hard and do a good job no matter where their license is hanging………is not an agent I want to be a part of my group!
If you fall prey to all the Recruiting tactics and false promises the first time around that’s OK. But learn from your mistakes.
A MESSAGE TO MY FELLOW BROKERS THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY:
If you want society to respect our profession and go back to realizing that a good smooth
Real Estate transaction can be achieved by hiring an exceptional professional, then it’s up to us to hire ONLY those exceptional professionals. Stop the recruiting battles for agents who will only bad mouth you when it’s time for them to hop to yet another company. Go back to a simple theory that can NOT be refuted “QUALITY not QUANTITY”! Save our reputation so that the consumers will benefit as well as the good hard working agents who NEED a place to hang their licenses and continue to help to uphold the integrity of our profession.
