Age of Empires 4 would be the fourth version of the immensely popular Age of Empires series, if Microsoft had any intention to actually make it. As of right now there are no signs or proof of any intention on Microsoft’s part to make another Age of Empires.
It’s been around 7 years since Age of Empires 3 hit the shelves, and so far there are no leaks, no hard rooted rumors, or anything. At this point it looks as though the series is officially dead. At one point when Ensemble Studios fell apart, there were offers to buy the franchise from Microsoft, but they declined. It seems strange that they would decline unless they were intending to make an Age of Empires 4 themselves, but as of yet it looks as though it’s not going to happen.
Unless Age of Empires is converting to a console game and is announced this E3 for the next-gen of consoles, don’t expect to see an Age of Empires 4 anytime soon. It might be made a few years down the road from now if someone can manage to buy the rights to it from Microsoft, but until then, it’s unlikely to see the game created.
