The 2013 Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance in Prancho Palos Verdes, CA will live up to its name by celebrating the “Age of Elegance” this weekend by showcasing some of the world’s most luxurious classic automobiles, such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and a 1933 Duesenberg SJ Torpedo Sedan sporting a California license plate reading “20 Grand” (the original sales price of the car). The Duesenberg is part of the Nethercutt Collection, and was originally built by Raymond Dietrich for display at the 1933 Chicago "World’s Fair Century of Progress." After being restored in 1979 and the car captured top honors at Pebble Beach in 1980.
The event will also celebrate two milestones in automotive history; 100 years of Aston Martin, the 60th anniversary of the Corvette and the Loewy Avanti’s 50th anniversary. Other classes will showcase post-war luxury cars and a full range of sports cars. Preservation cars, automobiles that are in original and well-maintained condition, will be displayed alongside the restored cars.
In addition, Chairman Peter Kunoth announced that the show will feature a special display of 8 “iconic” cars designed by Grand Marshal Peter Brock, including his 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350, 1963 Corvette Split Window Coupe, 1963 AC Cobra CSX 2005, 1965 DeTomaso P70, 1970 BRE Datsun 510, 1968 BRE Datsun Roadster, 2010 McCluskey Daytona Coupe CSX 2605 and 2013 Brock Coupe (aka the Superformance Shelby Daytona Coupe). The 2013 Brock Coupe, is “the only licensed continuation of the original Shelby Daytona coupe racing cars of the 1960s.” The DeTomaso P70, a one-of-a-kind prototype valued at more than $5 million, was originally unveiled at the 1965 Turin Auto Show, then kept out of the public eye until 2007.
