This weekend, Jan. 18-20, 2013, the Historic Palace Theatre in Lockport, NY will be showing Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets may be purchased online.
The Mousetrap is a murder mystery play written by Agatha Christie and debuted in 1952. The play takes place at the Monkswell Manor, a recently converted guesthouse. Four guests arrive to stay for the night and soon become snowed in. It is then that they read in the newspaper about a murder in London. Chaos breaks out after a detective arrives to inform the group that he believes the murderer is at large and on his or her way to the manor. Once one of the guests is murdered, they realize that the murderer is already among them. Each character is hen scrutinized and suspected, in hopes of preventing another murder.
The murderer's identity is divulged near the end of the play but by tradition, audiences are asked not to reveal the identity of the killer to anyone outside the theatre, to ensure that the end of the play is not spoiled for future audiences.
So remember, keep your eyes open and your mouth shut.
The Historic Palace Theatre is located at 2 East Ave., Lockport, New York. The theatre was built in 1925 and is known as the gem of the city of Lockport. The theatre is now owned and operated by the non-profit organization, Historic Palace Inc.
