'Against the Wall' cancelled by Lifetime after one season

Lifetime has cancelled Chicago police drama "Against the Wall" after only one season, Deadline reported Friday (December 9).

The critically-praised series averaged 1.6 million viewers a week during its 13-episode run after premiering in July to 1.8 million viewers.

Lifetime previously declined to renew fellow first year drama "The Protector" for Season 2 after it also drew underwhelming numbers.

Like "Against the Wall," the series failed to show any ratings growth, prompting the female-skewing cable network to pull the plug in September.

"Against the Wall" starred Rachel Carpani as a detective who had recently joined the Chicago Police Department's Internal Affairs division despite the protestations of her own family.

The show also featured Treat Williams, Kathy Baker, Brandon Quinn and Andrew Walker.

Quinn confirmed the news on Twitter late Friday, writing, "I'd like to thank @lifetimetv, the #AgainsttheWall writers and the amazing fans of 'Against the Wall,' but unfortunately we've been canceled :( "

Lifetime recently ordered ten more episodes of "Army Wives" while also picking up several pilots, including "Modern Love" with Eric Stoltz and Ally Sheedy, the Melanie Griffith starrer "American Housewife," the TV movie/backdoor pilot "Sworn to Secrecy" starring Neve Campbell and "Cinnamon Girl" produced by Renee Zellweger.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is also set to reprise her role in "The Client List," based on the successful telepic, for a 10-episode run, while remakes of "Steel Magnolias" and "Blue Lagoon" are currently being developed by the network.
