The cabinet of Bojko Borisov has resigned in context of social protests in Bulgaria. The direct reason was the high prices in electricity, although the politicians may see a connection between these protests and the loss of the socialists (mostly former communists and their followers and descendants) in the Referendum for Belene.
Who protest in the street is not very important since Bulgaria has remained one of the poorest countries in Europe. Probably majority has been surviving based on money coming from family members and relatives from abroad (840 million leva only in 2012). They have been paying bills from the USA, Germany, England, France, Australia, Spain very easy because Bulgarians at home have their debit cards. It has been a situation for years and there are no big changes since more Bulgarians emigrate and more Bulgarians become rich abroad. Many who went in the streets might really had no money but why did they not ask for social aids - why did they want a political change?
Wasn't it possible to open accounts for food stamps and social aids in Bulgaria? It looks like somebody prevents such measures in the craziest ways. For instance, more than 100,000 Euros have been going to one museum (Stara Zagora) for 3D scanning of finds and American money instead for archaeology went for dissertation for narratives from the “socialistic town” (Parkinson’s collaborative project with Bulgarian women at The Field Museum). Another link in this chain is an exhibit of “Stevshari” treasure in London which was “discovered” by former communist Diana Gergova in style Vasil Nikolov and Bozhidar Dimitrov. Exactly like during the communist regime – making the world talk nice things about Bulgaria (related to memory about the past communist regime through people and projects); exactly like during the communist regime when in the country existed pressure over social justice and freedom while communists traveled as “famous” (although Bulgarian) scholars or artists. One more recent link is the parody of participation of western authors in a Bulgarian electronic archaeological journal – their names were used for backing of pseudoscience.
The truth is that there are hungry people in Bulgaria. There are really many hungry people in Bulgaria. But this is not only in Bulgaria. Why in the 21st century have the other countries been resolving the problem of subsistence survival while in Bulgaria it looks there are people who have been preventing this to happen?
If we need to paint the big picture, we need to look at Bulgaria as a strategic country where the western world had allowed the Soviet Union to have felt like at home since 1944 till 1989. Then, how would after so many years of being at home, today Russia look at Bulgaria in a different way? But who in Bulgaria want Russia to be the leader again – only communists or related to them. However, they are not the majority today, although they can trouble the social life to get the power and to become majority as in past. This line of thinking does not need hard evidence since such is impossible to find in politics. But it looks logical.
Bulgaria and Russia are now like divorced after marriage. There are different models of the life of the spouses after the divorce. Very often the couples remarry. To do so, to eliminate the people who occupied the social space in between-marriage period seems important. Pro-Russians-like have been doing this in the American intellectual ocean – from the Field Museum’s narratives of the "socialistic town" to the archaeological e-journal (with main editor a Russian PhD holder) – all is about one and the same music – to make weak and funny looking the western culture and civilization specifically today when Putin wants again to return the world power of Russian in a communist style. And everything has happened with collaboration of American scholars who either had never taken a course on Bulgarian history or just play on invisible instruments and we see only the results.
The picture is not as straight as it looks, since Leda Mileva’s burial was accompanied by favorite American music. She was also one of the leading translators of American literature. Most curiously – Wikipedia does not write whether she was a communist, but at least she was one of the top officers of the communist regime. In past former communist Ivan Marazov had become a minister and the first thing what he did was organizing an exhibit of ancient Bulgarian treasures in the USA which were very popular in Europe. In addition, there are writings that Purvanov, hopefully the last president in Bulgaria related directly to the former communist regime, had used money to have bought properties in the USA. True or lie, it is just one of endless evidence that the communists really love America but even America they want to keep for themselves serving Russia and being the toilet cleaners of Russia, by killing for instance any dignity of Americans and looking for a respect which many of these people do not desire because of corrupted and even criminal visible and hidden social practices. It is painful for humanity when lie, corruption and crime have become the power and most innocent people have been hurt and left even victims of communist psychotronic terrorism.
What is the future? The future depends which model will win after the first divorce between Bulgaria and Russia in 1989. The blue flags in 1989 were the flags of hope that Bulgaria can play role in the world as autonomous, independent and social state. Today many Bulgarians believe that Switzerland will help because they like the model of Switzerland. Other want general political change and even monarchy to come back in Bulgaria. If the western democracy cares about the blue flags values of Bulgaria from 1989, the western world can help Bulgaria not by contributing to corruption and crime, but by embedding real humanistic values and keeping these values. Bulgarians are poor people, but majority are honest people. Now important is the western democracy to find the right people to connect Bulgaria with the best of western culture and not people who attempt personal goals, do not care about social identity and national identity and in fact make the trap of social crisis in Bulgaria deeper and deeper. Bulgarians are hungry in particular, because even American tax-payers money has been using not to help but to damage this wonderful nation.
