AG: ACORN can be paid federal funding...

                                          ABCNews

The memorandum signed October 23, 2009 was not revealed until this holiday weekend online.

Unbeknownst to taxpayers, the Justice Department concluded ACORN could legally be reimbursed for all contracts provided prior to congress shutting down funding.

The New York Times provides a link to the memorandum (5 pages, pdf).

Obama signed the bill to defund the organization in order to eliminate the use of taxpayer dollars from ACORN's goals.

Questions were asked about the new funding and the AG (Barron) responded as such, The new law “should not be read as directing or authorizing HUD to breach a pre-existing binding contractual obligation to make payments to Acorn or its affiliates, subsidiaries or allied organizations where doing so would give rise to contractual liability.”

How has ACORN let alone Obama's influence on them changed?

The Obama administration is loathe to follow the will of the people or the directives of Congress when it comes to ensuring the flow of tainted and corrupt money to his political army. This is the pay off, per Chicago politics, that we need to realize has undermined our Democracy. ACORN take taxpayer money and uses it to do the bidding of the Democrats. IT IS ILLEGAL campaign finance.

yeah, stop funding for Acorn and keep funding Blackwater. What's wrong with this picture?

  • Chris 2 years ago

Bob - it must really make you mad that Acorn registers the poor to vote. They tend to vote Democrat, out of their own self interest. How is this illegal? Prove it. I hear a lot of opinions claiming Obama is this or that, but no facts to back up any of these assertions.

Blackwater defends our country, Acorn destroys it. Seems like a logical move to me.

And by doing that, along with the occupation funding, the killing of tens of thousands, the still refugee's from their countries millions in numbers..............................and destroying the national security for the coming decades, destroyed by those who claim to be strong on, doesn't leave a pretty picture! But Hey ACORN helps the poor and those numbers are rising extremely fast, including the bobbies of this country! The Legacy We Leave To The Coming Generations!!

Everything is unbeknownst until it becomes beknownst, unless you're psychic.

What business is it of the government's to preemptively adjudicate possible fall out from the correct decision to defund ACORN? I believe that's the purpose of having courts.

In addition, the the use of tax payer dollars for ACORN, faith-based charities, or any other organization with a specific political or social agenda is in my opinion unconstitutional as it fails the "general welfare" clause of the preamble. Furthermore, it creates a system of political patronage, which is antithetical to a democratic principles.

Just like KBR , and Xe

    Ignacio,

The same corporate America which was stimulating economic tax dollars, after being forced to accept bailouts, must have congress punch their cards at the idea of making any changes.

Along comes voter fraud ACORN and taxpayer money falls before their feet. Define the 'stimulus' package in that.

Anyone with any sort of common sense realizes this is funding Obama's voterfraud.org.

Every day it becomes more obvious to more people that obama and his people are purposeful in their actions. Purposeful to bring America down. This is why Obama has a desire to talk to our enemies. He always speaks of cooperation with them, While at the same time he show absolutely NO Willingness to cooperate with his "adversary" at home. WHAT?

So you mean to tell me that ACORN didn't breach "contractual obligations" to the government when they actively sought to direct and aid citizens to engage in illegal activities?

Wow! That's some AG we've got. Please post the "contracts" the government made with ACORN so I can make that determination on my own.

    Thanks Eric.
