‘Afterlife With Archie:’ the zombie apocalypse comes to Riverdale

There are times your friendly neighborhood Fanboys Examiner can’t help giggling as he writes. I swear, I have made none of this up.

Zombies are invading Riverdale. According to Deadline Hollywood, Archie, Jughead, Betty and Veronica will soon have bigger things to worry about than who’s taking who to the prom. The undead are coming, thanks to a parallel plot line being written by “Glee” writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who was also brought in to perform emergency surgery on the Broadway musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

The story springboard is Reggie (who else?) running over Jughead’s dog Hotdog. Sabrina the Teenage Witch brings the dog from the dead, á la “Frankenweenie,” and when Hotdog then bites Jughead, Archie’s longtime pal begins craving human flesh.

The first arc is to be titled “Escape From Riverdale.” The second (don’t say you weren’t warned) is “Betty RIP.” Nonetheless, Deadline quotes Aguirre-Sacasa as saying the gore will be balanced with “elements that are quintessentially Archie.”
