Jonathan Baldwin saw the practice field today in Santa Clara. Primarily playing a secondary role on special teams practice drills, Baldwin will get more reps at receiver once he gets a better knowledge of the playbook.
Baldwin was picked up this week in a trade that sent the 49ers’ 2012 first round draft choice A.J. Jenkins to the KC Chiefs.
“I'm happy to be out here and ready to get going.” Baldwin said.
“It’s a fresh start. I want to learn the playbook and do what the coaches ask me to do.”
49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh agrees that it’ll be a fresh start for both guys.
“A.J.’s a very talented player never an issue, but maybe it’ll be the start of a great career for both guys with their new teams.” Harbaugh said.
“It happened with Chris Carter with Minnesota and Eagles as an example.”
The 6’4” 230lb wide receiver thinks he has a great opportunity in San Francisco and wants to work hard to show his talent.
“It’s a blessing to be able to be as physical and make the acrobatic plays like did in KC.” Baldwin said.
“I’m loving it.” Speaking about meeting his new coaches and teammates.
“Coming in halfway through the preseason means I have to study as hard as I can to catch up and go from there.” Baldwin said.
