There is nothing wrong with Cookie, who was dumped at Yonkers Animal Shelter at just six months old and spent the next six years of her life there.
The only thing that is wrong is that she remained homeless all of these precious years instead of enjoying life as a loving family member.
Cookie, now seven, was lucky to land at Yonkers, where she was given all the time she needed to find her match. Unfortunately, the shelter admits to having very little foot traffic in Cookie’s younger years.
So there she sat, waiting - safe, not urgent, and overlooked.
And there she remained, hoping the right person would come along to take her home. But now, due to dedicated volunteers, their very popular Facebook page is giving their adoptable animals the much deserved exposure to find homes, and it worked for Cookie.
After boarding and training, Cookie was adopted. But her freedom was short-lived when she became fearful of the autistic child in the home and the family felt it was necessary to return her. Now she's back in boarding, waiting again for a loving, forever home.
The shelter feels the best situation for Cookie is a home with an experienced owner who could provide direction and consistency. She could possibly live with a submissive dog and children over 10.
If you have a spot in your heart and home for Cookie, she’d love to meet you. She has grown up, but shouldn't grow old, without a family of her very own. Here’s your chance to know what it feels like to be loved by a Cookie.
