After near miss, Mayhem Festival will return to Boise for fifth straight year

Last year during the Mayhem Festival festivities one of the event staff indicated that Idaho would not be on the tour schedule in 2014. So when Rockstar Energy released the 2014 tour schedule and there was no Boise date, I was disappointed but hardly surprised. Still there was a shred of hope when I noticed a gap in the dates between Auburn, Washington on July 8 and Phoenix on July 11. Fortuitously, Treasure Valley music promoting legend, Creston Thornton stepped in to insure we did not lose our spot on the tour.

Thornton and his group, CTTouring have made sure the 2014 Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival will return to Boise for the fifth straight year. While details are still being hammered out, the date will be July 9 at the Ford Amphitheater (formerly Idaho Events Center/Amphitheater).

Tickets for the event are scheduled to go on sale April 5 and performing artists are expected to be announced March 31, however PRP.com released an article last week with a purported line-up for the event. The main headliners were listed as Avenged Sevenfold and Korn, which guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer confirmed in a recent interview. The other acts on the rumored line-up include:

Asking Alexandria, Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, Suicide Silence, Miss May I, Mushroomhead, Emmure, Texas Hippie Coalition, Veil Of Maya, Upon A Burning Body, Darkest Hour, Body Count, Ill Nino, Wretched, Sister Sin, Islander.

This list seems like a group of strong guesses and wishful thinking. Body Count seems likely, but Emmure performed on the 2013 tour which never duplicates acts on back to back years. Suicide Silence seems likely while Texas Hippie Coalition does not. Trivium seems good for a slot, but Asking Alexandria is currently touring the U.S. so that seems like a questionable choice. It would be wonderful to find Sister Sin on the bill, but is fairly unlikely. In all, you are probably looking at half the names that will be on the final line-up, but hopefully this is a partial list as too much of it is too familiar to past line-ups. Korn is quickly turning into the Mayhem house band.

Regardless, Boise metalheads send out a resounding thanks to Mr. Thornton and CTTouring for keeping us in the metal Mayhem mix. Now if we could get a few more hard rock and metal shows at the Revolution Concert House & Event Center all would be right in our rock and roll world.
