After Michael Muhney’s firing ‘Y&R’ fans wonder who is next? used with permission

Michael Muhney, who portrayed the popular character Adam Newman on “The Young and the Restless”, was abruptly fired in December with no explanation to fans. Back in December, Muhney spoke with The Huffington Post Canada and took ownership of his firing, but that has not stopped the outrage from fans.

After the botched job Jill Farren Phelps and her writing staff did on dealing with the death of beloved character Katherine Chancellor, and then the onset of the storyline killing off young Delia Abbott after a tragic car accident involving Adam Newman, fans took to the internet and voiced their displeasure with the direction “The Young and the Restless” has taken. The announcement that Billy Miller was exiting the role of Billy Abbot stunned fans and the boycott of “Y&R” began in earnest. Now, reports have surfaced that Michael Muhney was fired after 20-year-old co-star Hunter King accused him of groping her in an inappropriate and unwanted manner.

Fans, stunned by Michael Muhney’s firing, are left wondering who will be next to go. Actor Eric Braeden has been with the show for more than 30 years, as has co-star Melody Thomas Scott, but fans are concerned that “The Young and the Restless” writing staff have painted the characters into a corner. Braeden was fairly vocal back in August 2013 when head writer Josh Griffith was let go. The actor was very upset with the revolving door of writers and reportedly with the constant casting of new characters and recasting of fan favorites.

The last airdate for fan favorites Billy Miller as Billy Abbott and Michael Muhney as Adam Newman will be Jan. 30 and it appears that the future of the popular soap opera is uncertain.
