Singer Jordin Sparks showed off her amazing 50-pound weight loss at the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards Jan. 27 in Los Angeles. Sparks, who wore a body-hugging Nicole Miller halter-top gown, has maintained her weight loss for almost two years, thanks to regular exercise and portion control.
“I made exercise a priority instead of just talking about it,” Sparks, 23, told Shape. “I’m in a different state of mind. I’m very happy, so that helps as well, and just watching portion sizes.”
Jordin, who shot to fame after winning season six of "American Idol" in 2007, slimmed down from a size 14 to an eight by dramatically overhauling her diet and exercise routine. "There is no secret," she said. "It's just better eating and working out."
Sparks, who had been overweight her entire life, embarked on her weight-loss journey when she turned 21 and realized she didn't want to go through her youth being out of shape.
"I just wanted to be healthy," said Jordin. "I remember thinking, 'I'm in my prime. I should be happy and fit.' That was the moment I decided that changes needed to be made."
The previously sedentary Sparks first began walking a few blocks around her neighborhood, then graduated to hiking. The 5-foot-10 Jordin next added Zumba dance classes to her workout regimen and began eating smaller portions of healthy foods.
“It has not been overnight," she said. "I’ve definitely been working on it for the past couple of months. It’s really cool to see in the mirror — I’m like, ‘Oh! I can actually see that muscle now!’ ”
