Shopping during after holiday and seasonal clearance sales aids you in living a more frugal life. Why? Because patience pays off.
Many people need instant gratification. They purchase items at full price, or at slightly smaller sale prices, to decorate for the upcoming holiday or season. This is the wrong way of thinking if you wish (or need) to live frugally.
The best course of action is to purchase items at 50% or more off after the holiday or season. You may even be able to purchase items for next to nothing if you are willing to wait, then the items will be brand new when you take them out to decorate next year. These events happen regularly in the Bangor area.
The dollar store may net you 2 to 4 items for the regular price of one. For instance, $1.00 window clings may be sold for a quarter to .33 each.
The grocery store may be the source for good candy brands at discounted prices. To get the most benefit, save coupons for the candies you want and apply them to the clearance prices after the holiday. Buy enough to get you through the year and freeze. Use the gold wrapped candies for new year celebrations, and red ones for Valentines Day, etc.
A six foot artificial tree may be purchased for a quarter of the regular price after Christmas.
Holiday craft needs purchased now will save you much money on decorations and gifts for next year, and give you plenty of time to make everything.
Purchase holiday cards after Christmas and save a bundle, plus have them filled out long before necessary for next year. This will save you time next year, and allow you to purchase only a couple stamps a week throughout the year so you do not have to dish out all the money for them in November or December next year, when money is tight.
