After over eight years of marriage, actors Diane Lane and Josh Brolin have announced they will divorce. The announcement was made on Thursday by their representatives.
Lane's spokeswoman, Kelly Bush, confirmed the split:
I can confirm Diane Lane and Josh Brolin have decided to end their marriage.
The split has been termed "amicable" by at least one source close to the couple. That same source added that it was a mutual decision. The couple had been together for about three years prior to their marriage.
The divorce will be the second for both Lane and Brolin. They have no children together. Lane has a daughter, Eleanor Jasmine, from her prior marriage to actor Christopher Lambert. Brolin was married to actress Alice Adair from 1988 to 1994; they have two children, Trevor Mansur and Eden. Brolin is 45; Lane is 48.
The marriage got off to a rocky start. The couple wed on Aug. 15, 2004. In December of 2004, he was arrested for spousal abuse. At the time, it was reported that Lane had phoned police claiming that Brolin had hit her. Bush said only that "There was a misunderstanding at their home."
On Thursday a source said that the decision wasn't an easy one.
They've been separated for several months. This was a hard decision for both of them to make. They were together for 11 years, the relationship just ran its course.
Rumors of a split had been hanging around for a few months. Brolin was held for public intoxication just prior to midnight this on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2012. He was released without charge, but on New Year's Day, Brolin was seen without his wedding ring in Venice, Calif.
Brolin appeared in the recently released film "Gangster Squad" and has a number of other movies in post-production or filming. Lane will next appear in highly-anticipated "Man of Steel" Superman movie, playing Martha Kent. That film release on June 14, 2013 and is expected to be a blockbuster.
