Wow! It's April already! Exploratorium 's First Thursday After Dark series is coming up this Thursday, April 3rd. This Month it is about Wearable Technologies.
Since our early ancestors first put on a cloak to keep them warm from the cold, or dry when it rained, humans have been modifying the way our bodies engage with the world. Take a look at some of the ways the fascinating and new technologies are helping us transcend our physical limitations, from eyeglasses to exoskeletons!
Join Google Glass Lead Thad Starner to see how wearable computers can improve communication and attention. Not Impossible Labs founder, Mick Ebeling explains his establishment of a 3D-printed prosthetics lab in South Sudan. See an Ekso Bionic exoskeleton in action, then take in a screening of the documentary film, 'Fixed: the Science/ Fiction of Human Enhancement' with the filmmaker, Regan Bashear.
Check out a performance by Jordan B. Wilson, One Man Band, and discover electronically enhanced couture by Electrobaroque, Mikaela Holmes, Personal ED, Pixeldelic, SENSOREE, and Natalie Walsh. Have fun experimenting with altered vision, examining the intricacies of your own clothes, and sew circuits into your own illuminated designs with Grace Kim and Emily Lovell. You'll be able to wear your curiosities long After Dark!
Remember, After Dark is for adults only 18 years and older. It's at Pier 15 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM. Remember, too, that the price of admission does not guarantee entrance to limited seating venues. Those are admitted on a first come first served basis. Tickets are $15.00 for non members, $10.00 for members, and free for Lab members. Pretty cheap for a full evening of educational and fun entertainment! As always, there is a cash bar available. What more could you ask?
So go out After Dark on Thursday, April 3rd, and enjoy yourself...and the evening!
