Tyson Gay has had quite the 2010 summer sprint season, but tonight on ABC he will face the ultimate challenge when he races Shaquille O'Neal and a team of top athletes on the reality show "Shaq vs." Starting at 9pm EST on ABC, the American record holder and the NBA champion will settle the score on the track with a 200 meter relay race.
Last week in London, Tyson Gay raced against the clock sans the presence of world record holder Usain Bolt and super sprinter Asafa Powell, but still managed to run a world leading time of 9.78 seconds in the 100 meters. The week prior, Gay and Bolt went head to head in Stockholm and the showdown ended in a surprise, with Gay edging Bolt 9.84 to 9.97 and setting a new meet record.
In tonight's episode of "Shaq vs.", the now Boston Celtics center will first challenge celebrity chef Rachael Ray to a cook-off in New York, but then fly to Los Angeles to race the current American record holder in the 100 meters. Prior to the airing of the show, exact details of the race setup are unknown except that it will be a relay race consisting of Gay vs. Shaq and some top American athletes.
Shaq, Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, Chris Johnson of the Tennessee Titans and DeSean Jackson of the Philadelphia Eagles will meet Tyson Gay on the track at Occidental College in California for the big relay event. Gay, the fastest man in America, will take on two self-proclaimed Supermen to prove who can truly fly--well, more so run the fastest. Shaq will have to move his size 22 shoes quite fast to get past Gay.
