High pressure will build across the state tonight through Monday night with partly cloudy skies expected.

Clouds will increase on Tuesday as a major storm approaches from the southwest. We could see a little snow by late in the day as the system moves closer to the area.

Here is the forecast: For today, snow likely this morning, then tapering to snow showers this afternoon. Temperatures will hold steady around 30 degrees. Winds N 5-10 mph.

Tonight, partly cloudy with lows in the mid teens. Winds N 5-10 mph.

Monday, partly sunny with highs in the mid 20s. Winds N 5-10 mph.

Monday night, partly cloudy with lows around 10.

Tuesday, increasing clouds with a chance of snow late in the day. Highs will be around 30.

Looking ahead: Low pressure is forecast to intensify and track from Tennessee northeast into West Virginia on Wednesday, then to the Mid Atlantic states Wednesday night. Models are coming into better agreement with the track of the storm, and most indicate it should remain to our south. That means we should remain cold enough for all snow across much of the area, with a chance of a change over to a wintry mix across the southern counties.

There is still some uncertainty regarding the track and strength of this system, so stay tuned for future updates.

At this time, it looks like snow will break out across the area Tuesday night, and continue through the day Wednesday. There could be some mix of rain and freezing rain near and south of route 30. All precipitation will change back to snow on Wednesday. Several inches of accumulation are possible across the area. Lows Tuesday night will be in the low to mid 20s with highs on Wednesday near 30.

Snow will taper to snow showers Wednesday night as colder air sweeps across the region. Lows will be around 10 degrees Wednesday night.

Thursday will be partly sunny with highs in the low to mid 20s.
