It all started when Australian native Oliva Mahon planned an African themed 21st birthday party for herself. It sounds innocent enough, but the pictures from this party show something much more sinister. Olivia claims that people showed up in black face and other racist attire though that she didn't ask them to. The photos are now making rounds all over the internet, tagging Olivia as a racist. The pictures themselves are pretty bad, and aren't what you would normally see. However if you look at it from a different point of view you could see Olivia was throwing a party of how she and others view Africa. Racist it may be, but in reality it boils down to perception. This goes for all countries, not just Africa. Here is what Olivia had to say on the whole issue "It was my ‘African themed’ party and it was honestly made that theme because I have always wanted to go to Africa (to teach English) but haven’t made it there yet. In no way was this party intended to hurt anyone's feelings or upset anyone at all. In fact as you can tell from the photos I dressed up as Cleopatra, whilst MAJORITY of my guests came as animals, that can be found in Africa or wore traditional African clothes or even dressed up as famous people who come from Africa. If anything this was to celebrate the amazing country and people. However, some guest did decide to paint themselves, although this was in no way my intention or encouraged in the slightest." Many people have found the photos to be upsetting, racist and even rude, as they should. Though perception of far away places may vary, some guests seem to have taken it a bit too far, such as the person wearing the KKK uniform. It seems Olivia feels remorse for the whole situation, though some are saying she doesn't deserve forgiveness. What do you think of this party and it's reaction?
