Now that we’ve got your attention it’s really African Inspired PRINTS making their debut at Pier 70 as part of Bayview Underground Food Scene. Artist and Bayview resident Samuel Fleming Lewis was first introduced to the Thursday night happenings at Pier 70 through his association with the African American artists of San Francisco’s 3.9 Art Collective.

The Bayview Underground Food Scene is an event that takes place within a grand industrial, rusting, metal building east of Illinois Street at the end of 22nd Street. What looks like an abandoned warehouse at Pier 70 is an unexpected scene. Music echo’s throughout the space. Friendly, serious, foodie vendors tempt you with samples of their creations within an almost surreal atmosphere. Fresh produce, flowers and specialty food items are sold by local food vendors.

Lewis thought that Pier 70 was the perfect place for the first exhibit and sale of his 144 African Inspired Prints. An exhibition will be mounted to the buildings steel walls by magnets for viewing, selection and purchase.

Samuel documented his love of African motifs in his own interpretation of graphic textile and carving patterns as linoleum block prints. What started as a series of twelve 6” x 6” images over a 2 year period became 144 prints. The black ink images on white sustainable bond paper can be framed to accent any style of décor. Your choice of signed prints will sell for $20.00 each or 6 Prints for $100.00
