If you love art but can't afford a ticket to MoMA this weekend, don't despair. Visit the Brooklyn Public Library and let MoMA come to you. It's free!
On Saturday, April 24, the Brooklyn Public Library will host an informative lecture about African arts and European artists, "MoMA: Picasso, Matisse & Africa." Museum of Modern Art lecturer Larissa Bailiff will discuss the influential role of African arts in the work of Pablo Picasso and of North African Islamic art in the paintings of Henri Matisse. She will also examine the relationship between these two artists. Bailiff is a Ph.D. candidate at the Institute of Fine Arts, specializing in 19th Century European Art, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate art history courses at Pratt and FIT.
This free public event will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the Dweck Center for Contemporary Culture, located at the Brooklyn Public Library's Central Branch on Grand Army Plaza.
