Snowmass welcomes the National Brotherhood of Skiers who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.
This event brings African American skiers and snowboarders together to participate in winter sports and support the Olympic Scholarship Fund.
This event known as the “Black Ski Summit”, will be held during the week of February 23rd through March 2, 2013. “Celebrate-Reflect-Renew” is the theme of the event to epitomize the essence of the organization’s anniversary year in Snowmass Village, Colorado.
“Our organization’s 40th anniversary is momentous and a milestone in our history. We are very excited to return to Snowmass to commemorate and reflect on our achievements over the years. Snowmass is one of the premiere mountains and our members look forward to returning to the resort’s beautiful scenic surroundings and ski terrains fit for all levels of skiing and snowboarding. Snowmass has always been exciting during our past visits and we look forward to seeing how the resort will enhance our celebration,” said Diana Starks, NBS President.
The NBS Black Ski Summit is a fun-filled and exciting event designed for all ages including family friendly activities.
This week of activities will include a non-stop schedule of:

- Skiing
- Torchlight Parade
- GospelFest
- Club Races
- Riding
- Gala
- Daily Happy Hours
- Social events
- Picnic-On-The-Hill
- Anniversary Gala
- and numerous après ski gatherings
“We are excited to host the NBS Summit in Snowmass this year, especially to help them celebrate their 40th anniversary,” said Karla Baker, National Sales Manager for Snowmass Tourism Group Sales. “I have had the pleasure of working with the NBS for many years and the energy, enthusiasm and camaraderie of this group brings a very special spirit to our town.”
The primary purpose of this fundraiser is to support the NBS Olympic Scholarship Fund, designed to provide financial support for exceptional athletes of color who excel in winter sports.
Snowmass Village is thrilled to have been chosen as the host for this special event. The Summit’s attendees provides a significant economic impact to the host ski resort, the surrounding communities and a wide range of resort and ski industry partners. NBS members are expected to spend more than $500,000.00 during the week the event is held in Snowmass.
