Nine year old Quvenzhane' Wallis just became the youngest actress in the history of the Academy Awards to receive the prestigious Best Actress Oscar nomination. Miss Wallis is nominated for her role in the fantasy film Beasts of the Southern Wild which is also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Miss Wallis portrayed the character, Hushpuppy. Hushpuppy is a little girl who lives with her father at the edge of the world.
She must take care of her father who is suddenly suffering from a strange ilness. On top of his illness, the environment seems to be going crazy as mother nature goes out of control, the heat rises, and mystical creatures called aurochs are unleashed.
In spite of all this chaos, Hushpuppy goes on a quest to find her lost mother. She is definitely not an average elementary schoolgirl.
This is the Louisiana native's first film role and first Oscar nomination. Back in November 2012 she received the key to her hometown Houma which is in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, for her work in this film.
The Oscar Awards are set to air live on ABC on February 24th at 6 central. For more information about Quvenzhane' Wallis, check out: http://quvenzhane-wallis.com/
