The American Film Institute (AFI) has released a list of additional Centerpiece Galas and Special Screenings – comprised of a world premiere, award season contenders and highly anticipated independent and international films of the fall – for AFI FEST 2013 presented by Audi taking place Nov. 7-14 in Hollywood.
Among the additional red carpet gala screenings will be director John Well's "August: Osage County on Friday, November 8; legendary director Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor 3D" on Sunday, November 10; and the World Premiere of director Peter Berg's "Lone Survivor" starring Mark Whalberg on Tuesday, November 12. All gala screenings will be presented in the historic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
AFI FEST’s special screenings include director Spike Jonze's "Her," actor/director Ralph Fiennes "The Invisible Woman." director Frank Pavich's "Jodorowksky's Dune," director Justin Chadwick's "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom," director Asghar Farhadi's "The Past," director Stephen Frears "Philomena" and veteran documentary filmmaker Errol Morris's "The Unknown Known: The Life and Times of Donald Rumsfeld."
As previously announced, Agnès Varda, considered “the Mother of French New Wave cinema,” will serve as Guest Artistic Director at this year's AFI FEST.
The North American Premiere of Tom Hank's new film "Saving Mr. Banks" is the Opening Night Gala on Thursday, November 7 and Ethan Coen and Joel Coen's "Inside Llewlyn Davis" is the Closing Night Gala on Thursday, November 14.
Previously announced Centerpiece Galas include the World Premiere of director Scott Cooper's "Out of the Furnace" starring Christian Bale on Saturday, November 9; director Alexander Payne's "Nebraska" featuring a Tribute to Bruce Dern on Monday, November 11, and Ben Stiller's "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" on Wednesday, November 13.
The Star Patron Package and Marquee Patron Package will provide reserved seating for the festival’s announced Galas and the Special Screenings Pass offers priority seating for all of the festival’s Special Screenings. These and other AFI FEST Passes are on sale now at www.AFI.com/AFIFEST.
For the fifth consecutive year, AFI FEST will also offer free tickets to all screenings. On Monday, October 28 and Tuesday, October 29, AFI Members will have an exclusive 48-hour advanced opportunity to select tickets before they become available to the general public on Wednesday, October 30 and Thursday, October 31.
