You don’t have to drain your bank account if you’re looking to purchase your own ghost hunting equipment. Sure, there are some really cool expensive devices to do your research. However your basics are all you need to obtain some great evidence.
Digital Camera/Camcorder
Unless you are trying to start your own television series, any camcorder or digital camera can capture great evidence. Most point-and-shoot cameras have video recording capabilities with some recording in HD. What about night vision camcorders? Those come pretty inexpensive as well. You will probably lose the HD but still have good quality video. Cameras can range from $50 - $200 depending on brand.
The Ghost Meter
These devices range from $25-$50, varying on it’s capabilities. The Ghost Meter lights up when there is a disturbance in the surrounding EMF in addition to the beeping to alarm you as well. It’s a great affordable piece to add to your ghost hunting kit.
Digital Voice Recorder
Many times investigators can hear voices and whispering. Although, don’t forget about the voices you can’t hear. A digital voice recorder captures those voices as it picks up on the different frequencies that spirits are said to speak through. Most recorders come with a program where you can upload it to your computer. For $40-$50 you can purchase a great voice recorder.
Light Source
If you’re using a night vision camcorder, you’ll want to buy an IR illuminator. They are priced from $40-$70. If you were using a regular camera or camcorder any LED light would suffice, even those little LED flashlights. There is a Green LED light made by Phantomlites that allow non-night vision camcorders to have that night vision effect. These green LEDs are great for capturing shadows and apparitions as well.
IR Thermometer
Spirits tend to cause temperature changes as they drain the energy that surrounds them. For about $20, you can equip yourself with an IR thermometer to document these changes.
If you were to price these at the highest, you would be spending around $400. That’s not too bad compared to some camcorders costing that alone. Even more so, space your purchases out to make it more affordable. These tools are great inexpensive devices to get your ghost hunting kit going.
