Only seconds after signing the American TaxPayer Relief Act of 2012 on New Year's Day and averting the "fiscal cliff", a number of GOP legislators began narrowing their eyes at the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) and planning another debt ceiling debacle.
Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) speaking on MSNBC, Jan. 2, 2013, stated , "Our opportunity here is on the debt ceiling." He further stated, "We Republicans need to be willing to tolerate a temporary, partial government shutdown, which is what that could mean." Though most of their strategies and efforts have failed in an attempt to override the president, on several issues, they have been consistent. The first bill of the 113th Congress was introduced by Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) to repeal Obamacare in its entirety according to her tweet Jan.3.
Apparently Bachmann hasn't received the memo that the ACA has been sent to the Supreme Court by her GOP constituents to be ruled unconstitutional, but instead the Supreme Court ruled it a law of the land.
Here's some facts about the Affordable Care Act: ACA will not lead to government take over. ACA puts people, not health insurance companies or government in charge of health care. It strengthens existing employer-based health insurance markets while making the market fair for consumers by implementing landmark consumer protections. There's no government-sponsored, public, or "single payer" plan in the law. Insurers can no longer impose lifetime dollar limits on health care and annual limits are being phased out by 2014
Employers will not stop offering insurance to their worker when the law is implemented. More Americans have access to free preventive services. Approximately 54 million Americans had preventive coverage improve in their private health insurance plans. And an estimated 32.5 million people with Medicare have received one or more free preventive services.
Nearly $4.1 billion in taxpayer money has been recovered due to tools and resources made available through the ACA fraud prevention and enforcement policies. These efforts have also recovered $10.7 billion over the past three years.
The health insurance will not use your tax dollars to fund abortions. Status quo remains in force that , no federal funding is available for abortions, except cases of rape, incest or when the life of the woman is endangered.
More than 5.1 million people on Medicare have saved over $3.1 billion on prescription drugs, including the one-time $250 rebate check to Seniors who fell into the prescription drug coverage "donut hole." Congressional. Budget Office confirmed that the ACA would lower health insurance premiums for the same insurance plan by up to 4 percent for small businesses and up to 3 percent for large businesses. This is an estimate that indicates the reform could save businesses $2,000 per person in health cost.
