Affluent effluent: Woodland Park Zoo's Fecal Fest begins March 11, 2013

Yes, gardeners, once again it's time for that long-awaited event, Woodland Park Zoo’s Spring Fecal Fest.

During this timespan, which runs from March 11 to March 31, 2013, you may enter a drawing to compete for the privilege of purchasing the rich, plant-friendly mulch known as Zoo Doo or Bedspread, both of which incorporate offerings from the zoo's non-primate, non-carnivore animals.

Winners not only get the honor of buying the stuff, but also shoveling it into their chosen conveyances at an appointed time. (Dr. Doo will graciously provide shovels.)

Zoo Doo is a blend of feces from a variety of non-primate herbivorous species. It is touted as "perfect for vegetables and annuals." Bedspread is a premium composted mulch similar to Zoo Doo but mulched with greater quantities of sawdust and wood chips. It is advertised as being the "perfect mulch for perennial beds and woody landscapes," such as native gardens, rose beds, shrubs, pathways, and tree rings.

Here's how to enter the drawing for a chance to buy Zoo Doo or Bedspread. Please note that entries will only be accepted starting March 11 and that only one entry per person is eligible for each drawing.
