AFC playoff standings 2013: Denver Broncos sliding, Patriots have shot at No. 1

AFC playoff standings for 2013 could shift a lot in Week 15. Heading into the weekend atop the 2013 AFC standings are the Denver Broncos, but a bad loss on Thursday night (Dec. 12) to the San Diego Chargers could change that. At 11-3, the Broncos could now be passed by the No. 2 New England Patriots. If the Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins on Sunday (Dec. 15) they will take over that top seed via the head-to-head tie-breaker.

The Chargers are also back in the thick of things with a 7-7 record, putting the team just half a game back from the 7-6 Baltimore Ravens for the second wild card slot. The Miami Dolphins are also right there with a 7-6 record, showing how important the Miami vs. New England game is going to be this weekend. The New York Jets sit at 6-7 and are currently 9th place in the conference, but by no means eliminated from the race just yet.

The Cincinnati Bengals are currently No. 3 and leading the AFC North with a 9-4 record. They are followed by the Indianapolis Colts at the No. 4 seed with a first place standing in the AFC South. The Colts have already clinched what some analysts are calling the weakest division in the league this season. Finally, in the first wild card slot, the 10-3 Kansas City Chiefs are one win from clinching a spot in the playoffs. The team could still win the AFC West, but they have lost the head-to-head tie-breaker with Denver.
