AFC playoff scenarios 2013 news has the Baltimore Ravens securing the second wild card slot. The AFC playoff standings for 2013 now have the Ravens holding that No. 6 seed again. On Monday night (Dec. 16), the Ravens picked up a huge win over the Detroit Lions thanks to six Justin Tucker field goals. The win moved the team to 8-6 and control of that second wild card again.

NFC Postseason Outlook

If the Ravens win their final two regular season games against the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals, they will clinch a spot in the postseason. The team would also clinch the AFC North due to owning the tie-breakers over the Bengals. It will make for a very exciting finish in that division. The 8-6 Miami Dolphins also lose the tie-breaker to the Ravens, so the team needs to beat the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets as well as receiving some help from the opponents of the Ravens.

As for the 7-7 San Diego Chargers, they basically need to finish 9-7 and have the other two teams finish at 8-8 to actually make it into the postseason. That's a tough recipe to make it into the postseason, not because they cannot beat the Oakland Raiders in Week 16, but because they will have to face a hungry Kansas City Chiefs team in Week 17. As far as the 2013 AFC playoff scenarios go, the Chargers are against the wall.

The Denver Broncos have the inside track to become the No. 1 seed in the conference if they can finish with one more win than the Patriots. The Patriots hold the tie-breaker, so finishing with identical records would give the top seed to New England. Denver still has to hold off Kansas City in the AFC West as well, because the teams are now tied at 11-3. Currently the Chiefs hold the first wild card slot very cleanly

When it comes to the No. 3 Cincinnati Bengals and the No. 4 Indianapolis Colts, the Bengals hold the head-to-head tie-breaker. The potential is also there to move up, which could have happened if the team had pulled out a Week 15 victory. The Bengals hold the tie-breaker over the Patriots, meaning the No. 2 seed isn't out of reach just yet. An important game against Baltimore in Week 17 could mean the difference between winning the division and becoming a wild card team too.
