Aerosmith frontman Steve Tyler is clean and sober these days, but reveals he spent $5-$6 million dollars on cocaine and heroin at the height of his addiction.
"Realistically, [I spent] five or six [million]," Tyler told Australian 60 Minutes. "But it doesn't matter. You also could say I snorted half of Peru, but that's what we did."
Steven, who has four children (including actress Liv Tyler), says his harrowing drug addiction during the 1970s and '80s destroyed his family.
"I needed blow," he said in a 2011 "Dateline" interview. "I needed that cocaine. I needed it. It took my children away; it took my marriages away. I was on my knees."
Tyler, who has been to rehab eight times, got sober in the 1980s but became addicted to prescription medication in 2006 while treating hepatitis C. He kicked that habit after entering rehab in 2009.
The legendary rock star has said staying sober and drug-free remains a daily struggle. "I just have to keep it honest and open because I do feel like doing things I used to do," he told Oprah Winfrey in 2012. "It's called euphoric recall. I've got to be careful with that."
Steven, who was a judge on "American Idol" from 2011 to 2012, will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June 2013.
