Aerial acrobatic show to benefit rescue dogs coming to Lakewood

Up for Pups is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run by Kyla Duffy of Boulder, Colorado. The organization’s goal is to educate the public about puppy mills and their hazards while shedding light on breed rescue organizations around the country. To further her efforts, Duffy has put together a special aerial acrobatic show that benefits various breed rescue organizations called “Don’t Kill Bill.”

Don’t Kill Bill – A Celebration of Adopted Dogs is a show that people of all ages will find unique and fascinating while learning about humane treatment of animals, specifically dogs trapped in puppy mills.

“Puppy mills continue to be a despicable source aiding the already challenging problem of pet homelessness, and we firmly believe education is essential,” says Duffy. She created the show to raise awareness about puppy mills and encourage people to learn about animal rescue organizations from local organizations that save breeds from the dangers of puppy mills. Local breed rescue organizations, such as Boston Terriers and Great Danes, will be present in the lobby to provide patrons information about their work and promoting adoptable dogs during the show.

Proceeds from the show will be used by Up for Pups and their animal advocacy effort. In addition to enjoying some amazing theater, patrons will have the chance to win gift basket of dog goodies and products as well as a $500 donation to the dog rescue organization of his or her choice (rescue must be present in the lobby to win). Each patron will receive one free drawing ticket at the door and have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets during intermission. Drawing tickets sales benefit local rescue organizations.

The show is named for Duffy’s special rescue dog, Bill. Bill is a Boston Terrier who was born into a Missouri puppy mill and forced into breeding until the age of two. When he wouldn’t breed anymore, Bill was surrendered to a shelter and put into foster care, but it was still a rough life for Bill. Scared and shaky he had a difficult time adjusting to life outside the cage. In foster care, Bill made his way across Nebraska and into Colorado where he found himself in Duffy’s care. So scared and scarred by his past traumas, Duffy didn’t think little Bill would live much less thrive, but he did. Through the course of the theatrical show, the audience gets to hear Bill’s amazing story of survival.

The event is coming to Lakewood on Saturday, March 10, at the Lakewood Cultural Center. Show starts at 7 p.m. The cultural center is located at 470 South Allison Parkway. Tickets are available online at Up for Pups/Events.
