Aegis Angel | Magic 2012

Aegis Angel is the rare angelic icon of the Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set. A little different but definitely in the same spirit of previous Angels, Aegis Angel is featured in one of the M12 Intro Packs and offers a sizable flying body along with an “aegis” for your favorite permanent.  Aegis Angel was previewed today by Adam Styborski on the official Magic: The Gathering site.

When Aegis Angel enters the battlefield, another target permanent is indestructible for as long as you control Aegis Angel.  (Effects that say “destroy” don’t destroy that permanent.  An indestructible creature can’t be destroyed by damage.)

Aegis Angel is competing with titans for constructed play, and that makes our heavenly shield bearer a tough sell.  However, Aegis Angel is certainly the right size and cost for a Commander deck, and would fit very nicely into Heavenly Inferno (You’ll be making Kaalia indestructible, of course.  That’s some divine intervention!)

Aegis Angel is also an easy first pick, possessing both the size and evasion to end a game quickly, all while providing invulnerability for another one of your threats or a simple blocker - that will now be able to withstand any amount of punishment as your angel glides over to victory.

Look for Aegis Angel to protect and punish at Magic: The Gathering 2012 Core Set prerelease events, kicking off July 9-10.
