I had the chance to see Michael Jackson's movie This Is It yesterday night. This Is It follows Michael Jackson during rehearsals for his upcoming tour in London. The documentary closely shows the back up dancer auditions, the band rehearsals, and the walk through of each song.
In This is it, you get to see the real Michael Jackson and not the person that everybody has "told" you about. Michael was very passionate about his music. He felt every single song that was played by the band and if the song was one note off Michael would make sure they knew about it. Yes Michael, in his soft voice, scolded the band but as he put it... I said that with love l-o-v-e.
During the rehearsals Michael performed some of his highest charted hits such as: Thriller, Human Nature, Black or White, Billie Jean, and a few Jackson 5 songs. Now some of you may want to know how Michael Jackson, who is a Pop Star, goes hand in hand with Hip Hop? Well a lot of Hip Hop artists have sampled a Michael Jackson song here and there.
Here's a list of songs and the artists who have sampled them:
- I wanna be where you are: MC Lyte, Grand Puba, Murs, and Q the Kid
- I can't help it: De La Soul, Ginuwine, Mary J. Blige
- Rock with you: De La Soul, Brandy f/ Heavy D, Big L
- Billie Jean: LL Cool J, Jeru the Damaja, Aaliyah, ODB
- Human Nature: 2Pac, SWV, Nas, Ne-Yo
Michael's drive, determination, and love for music spilled over into the Hip Hop community causing his fan base to expand immensely. Henry Adaso posted a few Rap artists thoughts about Michael Jacksons passing in one of his articles.
If you have not gone out to see This Is It, I suggest you go out ASAP. The movie was released on October 28, 2009 and is only a 3 week event, but it will be released on DVD.
