Advocating for the Child in the School System: A Toolbox for Parents

Lester B Pearson Central Parents Committee will be hosting an information evening for parents with special needs children entitled Advocating for the Child in the School System: A Toolbox for Parents with guest speaker Maureen Hunt, M.A.

The presentation will be held:

The focus of the presentation will encouraging active planning and involvement in a child's daily curriculum at school, particularly when there are special needs to consider.  Parents are natural advocates for their children, and are a vital component of their success.

Hunt will offer tips and advice on how to accomplish successful advocacy with understanding, compassion and awareness. Also on the agenda is the importance for parents to nurture and care for themselves as parents of children with special needs.

A press release issued by the Central Parents Committee of Lester B. Pearson says Hunt has personal experience in the advocacy role as a parent of a successful Lester B. Pearson School Board graduate. She has worked with several community organizations for many years in coaching parent advocates. Maureen is a member of Student Services at

Lester B. Pearson and works with the Family and School Support and Treatment Team.
