Miley Cyrus was interviewed by Matt Lauer on the TODAY show (Oct. 7) displaying additional controversial behavior. What prompted Miley this time was when Lauer asked if her “sexual side” was just a phase. She included in her reply she heard people stop having “sex” when they are 40-years-old. With that, Lauer casually asked her if she knew how old he was (he is 55) when she told him he definitely isn't sexual.
It is apparent Miley believes intimate sexual encounters cease when an individual reaches the age of 40. This could be indicative of egocentric behavior.
In child psychology, a famous theorist by the name of Jean Piaget proposed cognitive stages in childhood which focused on the intellectual development of children, one of which is “egocentrism” (click here for the easy-to-read stages).
Egocentrism is the term coined to characterized behaviors that show a person's exclusive preoccupation with one's own world. Egocentrics have difficulty understanding concepts other than their own or what is applied to them. If they haven't experienced it, they don't understand it.
Miley is still young. She may not understand the experiences of older people (over 40) includes having a healthy sex life. She will learn eventually that sex is for grown ups, too.
